Welcome to Artist Appraisal! I have working familiarity with thousands of musicians, bands, and artists but for a large number of reasons I may not be ready to begin putting their work through the formal album review process. Reasons could be because of, and not limited to, the following:
-They are too new for me to make sweeping generalizations about their career paths.
-I lack enough knowledge in their overall career to speak intelligently.
-I'm intimidated by their fame, critical acclaim, and/or status.
-They are within a genre that I don't know much about yet.
-My feelings compared to overwhelming popular opinion are either mixed or contradictory.
-They have been subjected to countless other reviews and the prospect of tackling them myself bores the shit out of me.
-I'm busy.
-Etc. Etc. Etc.
Opinions change over time, and I'd love to someday write reviews on ALL these bands and musicians. Right now, though, I have to settle for writing about why I don't want to write about them to satisfy my itch to write about them anyway. Consider everything written in this feature nothing more than an in-the-moment snapshot of my feelings that may have been easily changed the day after it was written (this is how I can justify any and all of my shitty opinions).
